British Telecom Selects Brightidea.com To Engage Employees In The Innovation Process
Internal Social Networks Uncover New Product Ideas and Business Opportunities
SAN FRANCISCO, June 12, 2007 -- Brightidea.com, the leader in open innovation management, today announced that British Telecom has selected its software-as-a-service suite to manage its global innovation pipeline. Brightidea.com enables British Telecom to tap the collective knowledge of its 140,000 employees to maintain its technical edge for its 20 million customers worldwide. With the help of Brightidea.com, the company has been able to maintain its place at the forefront of a rapidly changing and competitive industry.
British Telecom operates in 170 countries providing networked IT services, local, national and international telecommunications services, and higher-value broadband and internet products and services. Customer demands, heightened competition and the accelerated pace of technology advances place new pressures on the telecom industry. With over 140,000 employees across the globe, the company has always had an extensive network of potential innovators at its fingertips; but until recently it lacked the tools necessary to effectively harness their ideas and convert them into measurable gains.
Brightidea.com enables British Telecom to collect, organize and rank employees’ ideas, then evaluate their potential return and track the progress of each resulting product or project. In addition, the platform includes social networking tools to allow users to rate and comment on ideas making it easier for executives to identify the most promising prospects.
In conjunction with the Brightidea.com implementation, British Telecom has created a rewards system, providing financial incentives to employees who participate in the program. For example, if an employee submits an idea on Brightidea.com, and it is pursued for further development, that employee receives a percentage of the revenue generated from that product or service for up to three years. In some cases, this compensation can exceed an entire year’s salary.
“Employees at companies around the globe have great ideas to share, yet they lack the available means to share and submit these ideas,” said Matthew Greeley, CEO and co-founder, Brightidea.com. “We take pride in our ability to offer the tools that companies need to turn employee, customer and partner ideas into a reality.”
